At the time, the lively rhythms and percussive sounds of the Ottoman military band (Janissaries) captivated audiences, and many composers sought to imitate that exotic character. In this movement, the light staccato rhythms and octave patterns in the bass evoke the sound of drums and cymbals, creating a vivid, percussive energy.
